Description

An exclusive Recession Art collaboration with artist Gabriela Vainsencher

These beautiful magnets are a unique Recession Art production in collaboration with artist Gabriela Vainsencher, and are derived from Morning Drawing, a series Gabriela was working on when we first showed her work with Recession Art. In January 22, 2008 Vainsencher began working on the Morning Drawing project. For over four years she made a drawing every morning and posted its image on her website GabrielaVainsencher.com. She completed the project on June 30, 2012 after creating over 1,200 works.  The project became a verbal and pictorial inventory of the contents of her head and acted as the physical and conceptual basis out of which much of her other work emerged, such as video animations and large, room-sized installations.

Gabriela Vainsencher was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and raised in Israel. In 2005, she earned a Bachelor of Education and Fine Arts from the School of Art at Beit Berl College in Israel. Her drawings, videos, and installations have been shown widely in solo and group shows in the United States and abroad, including Mass MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts, La Chambre Blanche in Quebec City, the Freies Museum in Berlin, and Pierogi Gallery and Parker’s Box in Brooklyn. She has participated in several artist residencies, including Yaddo in 2008, La Chambre Blanche in 2009, Triangle Arts Association in 2010, and the Atlantic Center for the Arts in 2011. She currently lives in Brooklyn and Philadelphia and teaches art at Williams College in Massachusetts.
