Vega is a freelance art director and illustrator. Her style is born from an interest in figurative art and a heavy influence from Japanese animation. She creates illustrations with flat colors and an emphasis on bold lines with dynamic angles. Vega’s beautifully illustrated books may recall animation from the 1980s and tell children’s stories with sophistication that can even entrance adults. A variety of Vega titles are available at RAC.
Vega describes this work as “5 pop-up images. It shows a day in the life of gannets, sea birds which dive into the ocean from great heights to catch fish.” It is a completely handmade artwork, which plays on the idea of a pop-up book. It is printed on archival paper, hand-bound and finished with a printed book-cloth cover. Gennets – Carousel Book opens completely to create a visual narrative that can be experienced as a cyclical, sculptural object. The artist has attached ribbon to the spine of the book, which will allow it to hang as an ornament wherever you so choose.
