Description
Sea Captain #2 is a limited edition silkscreen print (edition of 7), measuring 15″ x 22″. It comes unframed.
Dominick Rapone’s Death of the Sea Captain is a series of four print portfolios inspired by his life. The first suite of prints was based on a near drowning experience he had as a teenager off the coast of Italy. The second suite deals with the events after that moment, from near death to resurrection, rebirth, growth and a second coming of sorts. These prints become a way for Rapone to describe the moments after seeing light fading into that inky darkness and then being reborn into light again.
Rapone began working on this print series in order to deal with the haunting memory of this childhood trauma that still affects him to this day. This series is designed for not only Rapone’s self-reflection but for others as well to use the images to reflect upon moments in their lives that change and define them. It becomes a theme anyone can connect to: the way a single moment can create lasting joy or terror in the awareness of your mortality.
Rapone’s work has been shown nationally and internationally at the Art Directors Club, the Visual Arts Gallery, Adrienne/Adrian’s, the Cam Gallery in Istanbul, Turkey and the SRISA Gallery of Contemporary Art in Florence, Italy. His full print series can be seen online at http://beastlyprints.com/.
